“Until the lion learns how to write, every story will glorify the hunter.” - African proverb
You're invited to Greene Street Friend School's Annual Black History Month Event, The Lion's Story!
Each year, the GSFS community comes together on this special evening to celebrate Black history, culture, and heritage. This year's program will include:
- Showcase of Black History: This year, GSFS students and teachers are celebrating Black History with the theme, "Beyond Hidden Figures: Black History Out Loud." Classes have been learning about the stories of Black individuals and groups who have made an impact in their communities or larger world, with a focus on those "hidden figures" whose contributions, achievements, and talents are not well-known by a wider American public. During The Lion's Story event, students can bring their families to tour classroom hallways where student learning will be featured.
- Dinner by Barbara Bond Catering, featuring a delicious menu of soul food
- Special Recognition of individuals who have made an impact on our GSFS community.
- Performance by Karen Smith Drums and More
This event is sponsored by CARES in partnership with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at GSFS. In order to get an accurate count for dinner, please register by February 17. Space may be limited.
